We are 600+ volunteers in one of 48 Trout Unlimited Chapters in Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth has over 13,000 TU members interested in the protection of our wild trout resources. We restore streams through habitat improvement projects, conduct seminars on water quality and fisheries management. We work to educate the next generation about the importance of clean water and wild trout. We invite you to join us.
We're more than "just a fishing organization." The work we accomplish is equally important to all those who enjoy outdoor sports or simply the beauty of nature. In fact, clean water is the lifeblood of virtually every creature and plant on earth.
Come join us as we enjoy and protect our local limestone streams. Our waters are recognized by serious trout fishermen around the country and overseas. The Letort is here, as is the Yellow Breeches. We also are blessed with Green Spring and Big Spring.
CVTU’s new book, More of CVTU's Favorite Flies is now available. A sequel to our popular CVTU's Favorite Flies, this new book follows the same format, but is in full color.
When Fly of the Month was inaugurated in our monthly newsletter, members were challenged. "Do you have a secret weapon that you want to share with your fellow CVTU members? Do you have an invention that the trout just can't resist? Submit your favorite pattern...".
The members responded, and these books are a compilation of over 11 years of Fly of the Month patterns. Some are classics, some are flies adapted from other areas that have been successful here, and some are inventions of the contributors. All are proven patterns that will be worthy additions to your fly box. Books may be purchased at monthly members meetings. The books are 6" x 9", and spiral bound to lay flat on your tying desk. Books are now in stock! To order either or both by mail, click below
Our September membership meeting will be held on Sept. 17th in Allenberry's Meadow Lodge and begins about 7 p.m. with the program beginning about 45 minutes later. Please check back later for program details. See you there!
Pennsylvania State Fly Casting Championship
September 6, 2014
TAKE THE CHALLENGE TO BE DESIGNATED AS ONE OF THE BEST FLY CASTERS IN PENNSYLVANIA!
Combined 5-weight accuracy and distance fly casting challenge
The Last Supper is a CVTU tradition that goes back to the days of Vince Marinaro and Charlie Fox…back when trout season ended after Labor Day. The devotees of the Letort would get together to have a bite and swap stories of the fish they caught and of the bigger ones that got away. The tradition continues this year on September 6th at 5:00 PM in Vince’s Meadow and it’s open to all – rain or shine. Bring a chair – seating is limited.
The cost is $5 per person…additional donations are graciously accepted. We’re serving pulled pork BBQ and smoked sausages with salads and beverages…while the supply lasts. If you plan on attending, send an e-mail to email@example.com and let us know you’re coming. Another tradition of the evening is the traveling rod. We’ll get to hear from last year’s rod winner as to where the rod has been and how many fish were landed on it. One person will be chosen at random to have the rod until the 2015 Last Supper…the tradition will continue…be part of it!
Cumberland Valley TU will once again have a presence at the Carlisle Events Outdoor Show. This is a fundraiser for the chapter as well as a chance to do some PR and recruiting of new members. We will have a tent and a casting area adjacent to the tent. We plan to sell a selection of flies for the upcoming Steelhead and Salmon season as well as our chapter book and raffle tickets for a drawing yet to be determined. We will also be offering basic fly casting instruction to all interested with a prize drawing from among the people who successfully hit the casting targets we set up.
Volunteers are needed to man the booth so please consider signing up for a shift to help us out if possible. Click on the link below for all the details.
